Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Sigurd Pacher: A Look at Austria and the European Union

Our guest speaker this month will be Sigurd Pacher, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC.  Mr. Pacher will speak to PTPI on the history and culture of Austria, as well as issues regarding the European Union. 

Prior to this role, Mr. Pacher was head of the Unit for Recruiting and Training in the Austrian Foreign Ministry in Vienna. From 2007 to 2009, he was in charge of the Unit for Honorary Consulates and Diplomatic Passports in the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

He served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Ottawa from 2004 to 2007 and was the Austrian Deputy Consul General in New York City from 2001 to 2004. Before coming to New York City, he worked at both the Department for Migration and Humanitarian Assistance and the Department of Human Resources in the Austrian Foreign Ministry and also had an assignment to the Austrian Embassy in Tirana, Albania. Mr. Pacher joined the Austrian Foreign Service in 1997. From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Pacher was an assistant professor for Austrian Economic and Social History at the University of Graz (Austria) where he had also worked as a research and teaching assistant from 1990 to 1992.
